Katie Hulgren Is Now a Florida Registered Paralegal

by | May 18, 2018

On August 17, 2017, our firm’s own Katie Hulgren became an official Florida Registered Paralegal.

What Is a Florida Registered Paralegal?

A paralegal is someone with education, training or work experience, who works under the direction and supervision of a member of The Florida Bar and who performs specifically delegated substantive legal work for which a member of The Florida Bar is responsible. A Florida Registered Paralegal, on the other hand, is a paralegal who has met the education, training, certification and work experience required for registration as set forth in Chapter 20 of the rules that regulate the Florida Bar.

In order to register with the state and cement her status as a paralegal, Katie had to meet specific criteria, including:

Bachelor’s degree and/or Education in Legal Assistance or Paralegal Studies

Katie received her Associate’s Degree from Palm Beach State College in 2001 and graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 2013 with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.

Related Work Experience As a Paralegal

In January 2014, after graduating from FAU, Katie began working for Klein Law Group, P.A. as a Legal Assistant. She has worked for and with Attorney Eric Klein and Attorney Abigail Cohen (members of the Florida Bar) and received education, training, and work experience under their supervision. During this time, she began to perform substantive legal work and participated in legal matters with the firm, which qualified as “paralegal work experience.”

With a Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of paralegal work experience under her belt, Katie was officially eligible to become a Florida Registered Paralegal.
