The Economy and Your Child Support
As the economy continues to struggle, men and women across the country are continuing to have difficulty making ends meet. As more and more people continue to get laid off during the recession, many divorced men making child support payments are struggling just to get by, let alone make the monthly payments which they are legally required to make.
If you are one of these men and you’re not sure where you’re going to get the money to continue making your support payments, contact the Boca Raton divorce attorneys of Eric N. Klein & Associates, P.A., by calling 561-353-2800.
Adjusting Child Support Payments
One of the problems facing fathers making child support payments is that the unemployment rate for men is significantly higher than the one for women. The unemployment rate for men is 9.8%, while the unemployment rate for women is 7.5%. Additionally, new jobs are being created primarily in industries which predominantly favor women, such as nursing.
According to a survey conducted by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, 39% of the members polled said they had seen the number of people asking to have the terms of their child support arrangements adjusted, with 42% saying that the number of people looking to change their alimony arrangements had increased. These figures underscore the number of people having difficulties making their payments on time. Some fathers who until very recently were making good money at their professions are now on unemployment, having to send virtually their entire welfare check to satisfy their child support obligations.
