That, in turn, means lost income for the person who depends on them. Spouses who have lost alimony payments sometimes try to recover those payments by force, but there is an easier way.

Unlike child support, which is enforced by law with possible jail time, alimony payments are not always court-ordered. It is possible to get the police involved with court-ordered alimony, since lack of payment would be illegal. Alimony that is not court-ordered generally cannot be forcibly extracted.
