Equitable Distribution

Divorce can be a very trying time in your life. There is a great deal of emotional stress that accompanies the already difficult process. On top of all of that, you have to find a way to split your property with your soon to be former spouse. For some people, this can be fairly difficult.

In any divorce, the distribution of property is supposed to be equitable. This does not mean that it must be equal. Divorcing couples are often surprised to learn that one party will receive far less than the other. In many cases, this works in favor of the wife.

Often the husband is able to make more money than the wife. In some cases, the difference between the husband’s and wife’s earnings is massive. In these cases, the distribution of property must be such that it helps the less financially stable party get back into the workforce, or continue in the workforce.

In some cases, equitable distribution can be close to equal or even equal. However, this is not usually the case. Equitable distribution of property often goes in favor of one party. Unfortunately, this can leave the other party at a loss.
